Maple Dumplings

This recipe comes from Lynette Ely in honor of hers parents, Hubert and Evelyn Friedline.  Some of her earliest memories include carrying supper to her father, through melting snow patches, to a sugar camp about a quarter mile from their Somerset County home.  Her recollection of this dish cooked on a wood and coal fired kitchen stove, makes the country dish taste even better

In a heavy saucepan bring to a boil;
  2 cups maple syrup
  1 cup  water
  1 tablespoon  butter
Meanwhile in a bowl mix;

2 cups

flour

3 teaspoons  baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt

Drop the soft dough by the spoonfuls into the boiling syrup.  Lower heat, cover pan closely.
Cook 12 to 15 minutes.  Serve immediately.
