New England Christmas Punch

In a saucepan boil the following ingredients to make a syrup for 5 to 10 minutes:
1 cup sugar
2 sticks cinnamon
1/2 lemon sliced
2 dozen whole cloves
Add:
2 cups orange juice, heated
2 cups grapefruit juice, heated
1 quart claret or similar red wine
1 cup brandy

 

Serve in a brass pot over a low flame.
